Opus 500: Fight Time at Rose’s Place
Every so often, Rose holds a “Fight Time at Rose’s” event. It’s a time for gym members and the occasional special guest, to fight in a relaxed atmosphere no press, no publicity—just for the pure sport of it—and to challenge each other’s skill. They all end with either a knockout, someone giving in, or, on rare occasions, a stoppage—there’s no round limit.
The first fight was between Jackie and I; our faces clearly show the results of the fight—4 3 minute rounds of intense action before the bloody looser couldn’t beat the count.
Ever since Tara first started training at Rose’s, it’s been her ambition to beat her teacher up. And she’s tried repeatedly—each time taking a thrashing from her bigger, stronger—and far more experienced—teacher. But, this time, at Fight Time at Rose’s, Tara’s done it. After 7 brutal rounds, Tara’s done it. Her right hook to her dazed teacher has given her a nice halo of sweat and blood—naptime for Rose…
Tara is now the gym’s Open weight class champ, vacating her gym middleweight title. Several people will be interested in challenging for either the vacant title, or for Tara’s title. Jackie will certainly be interested in Tara’s new title—after taking the lightweight title from Scrap. (That shouldn’t be too hard…)
Of course, Liz and Sara also see Tara’s title as being up for grabs. Right now, Liz and Scrap have the best claims at a shot at Tara and her Openweight gym title, since they are, respectively, the gym heavyweight and lightweight champs.
Note: This pic has been in the works for some time, and has been one of the most challenging to do of all that I’ve shared. I hope it was worth the time and effort.
