As the two heavyweights fight in close, Nylisha’s confident that her uppercut will hurt the big bruiser—but Maria’s ready. Slamming her right glove forcefully into Nylisha’s glove, she stops the uppercut cold—and slams it down hard, hoping to damage Nylisha’s bicep—perhaps even make her pull a muscle, and reduce the power in that muscular left.
At the same time, she’s whipping her own left hook around. It’s blocked—but still does its job. Nylisha’s own glove is slammed hard into her head—and perhaps her arm is strained a bit blocking the blow. To all appearances, it seems to be simply a pair of blocked punches—but it’s a lot more. Maria is unscathed by the blows, but Maria managed to hurt her opponent both by punching her, and by blocking.
Mere seconds into the fight, and they’re hurting each other good…
